SD-48 Democratic candidate Darrel Aubertine picked up two union endorsements today in his run for the 48th Senate seat:
Darrel Aubertine's campaign for the 48th State Senate seat picked up major endorsements today from the United Auto Workers of American (UAW) and the Communications Workers of America (CWA) at a rally in Oswego County.
"When Darrel talks about saving jobs, it isn't just chatter-it is words from someone who has done it," said Sam Williams of UAW Region 9. "The choice for us in this campaign was simple, because Darrel is the only candidate who has worked to protect the interests of working men and women. He has worked to keep companies from outsourcing our jobs and to keep good-paying jobs in our region for the long-term, and he has been successful."
"Darrel has proven himself to be someone who stands up for working people," said John Decillis of CWA local 1124, Watertown. "This region needs an economic renaissance, and to succeed it will take someone with the work ethic of Darrel Aubertine. Getting results and saving jobs takes hard work and perseverance, but Darrel has done it before and is clearly the best candidate to do it for the residents of Oswego, Jefferson and St. Lawrence Counties."
Aubertine is gaining a lot of support from people who know that he will fight for the working class in the Senate, just as he has fought for the working class in the Assembly. Earlier today, he picked up the Working Families Party endorsement, which means he will appear on the February 26 ballot on the WFP line.
Aubertine's campaign is rolling. There are endorsements galore and the universal sentiment is that he is the candidate for the middle and working class folks of the 48th. |

| SD-48 Democratic candidate Darrel Aubertine sent a mailer out to citizens in the 48th Senate District which hit his opponent, Republican Will Barclay, on the issue of jobs.
A few of the lines that stand out in the mailer:
Thanks to wealthy Albany politicians like William Barclay, companies are getting paid when they send our jobs overseas.
Barclay voted to allow companies that take our jobs away to keep their tax breaks.
The mailer refers to an Assembly bill from 2004 - A.11682. The bill was put forth to punish companies that would leave New York and outsource their jobs out of the state. The Business Council of New York State summed up the bill as the following:
The Assembly has introduced a modified version of the original Brodsky "poison pill" bill. A.11682 would still require benefit recapture and impose a 5 year benefit ban of businesses that move jobs out of New York. In some instances, these penalties would only be imposed if there was a reduction in the business's net in job employment. Also, the scope of benefit programs is more limited, and the recapture provisions would apply back to the effective date of this law.
In essence, the bill was put forth to do two things: (1) Punish companies who take advantage of programs like our Empire Zone program who then leave and take those jobs elsewhere. (2) In a way, the bill reforms the Empire Zone program by mandating companies who do leave to pay back the benefits they received in New York State.
Proof once again that Will Barclay is pro-business and not pro-working New Yorkers.

| SD-48 Democratic candidate Darrel Aubertine has picked up a huge endorsement from the Working Families Party. As a result, Aubertine will appear on the ballot on Feb. 26 on both the Democratic and Working Families' lines.
From an e-mail press release:
The Working Families Party announced today its endorsement of Darrel Aubertine in the race to succeed Jim Wright in the 48th Senate District. Aubertine was interviewed by a local committee of Working Families Party members in Watertown, who recommended the endorsement of Aubertine based on his support of issues the minor party has long championed: economic development, universal healthcare and the creation of living wage jobs.
"We looked at the records of both candidates and really liked what Darrel had to say," said Tony Arquiett, President of UAW Local 465 and a member of the interview committee. "Aubertine shares our values, he'll be a fighter for economic development, living wage jobs, and fair tax reform that New York's working families need."
"I'm thrilled to have the Working Families Party's nomination," said a delighted Aubertine. "The Working Families Party stands up for New York's middle class. We're glad to have them on board." The WFP endorsed Aubertine for Assembly three times before. "This is my 4th endorsement from the WFP, and I'm so proud to have received it each and every time."
Republican candidate Will Barclay was also invited to interview for the endorsement, but did not attend.
The endorsement by the Working Families Party sets up a contest between at least two of New York's minor parties. The Conservative Party endorsed Republican Will Barclay, who will run both party lines.
This is huge for Aubertine. And the reason for the endorsement should stick out. He champions the causes of the working class citizens in his district and will continue to do so when he's in the State Senate.
Also, take notice that Barclay didn't even bother attending. Maybe he thought it was a formality that Aubertine would get the nod, but it should show where Barclay's allegiances are: To the wealthy and Big Business. |
